Larry Flint Essays - Larry Flynt Publications, Free Speech Activists

Larry Flint Larry Flynt Infamous pornographer and free-speech activist Larry Flynt has brought about controversy for nearly 30 years. As the editor of Hustler magazine, Flynt has publicized pornographic obscenities in several manors. By doing this, he has challenged America's interpretation of the First Amendment, insisted that freedom of speech include obscenities and pornography, and made the anti-porn activists and feminists fight for constitutional protection from obscenity. Larry Flynt was born on November 1, 1942. Coming from a broken home, he later joined the military under false age. Flynt was discharged and after several unsuccessful jobs, went back to serve for five years on the U.S.S. Enterprise. After the Navy he moved to Dayton, Ohio where he bought a bar and turned it into a successful strip club. In the next year, Flynt opened similar clubs in 4 different Ohio cities and sent out newsletters to his clientele. Soon, Flynt set out to make his own men's magazine. In 1974 he released the first issue of Hustler magazine. Hustler was different from other pornographic magazines. It ?prided itself on hard core depictions of raw sex, which often included graphic nude photos of disabled, pregnant, and elderly women. One issue featured nude pictures of former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, while another depicted a woman being feed into a meat grinder.?# Anti-porn activists and feminists started to speak out about the controversial issues behind the explicit Hustler magazine. ?This is a magazine bought by pubescent boys with untempered curiosity about sexual perversions, and by adults with insatiable curiosity about sexual perversions, ?adults' who would read monthlies serializing the Marquis de Sade, if they were more literate.?# Some people tend to disagree with the feminist views of such magazines as Hustler. ?Women have the right to be free from discrimination not only in the workplace and in the classroom but in the bedroom as well... Women should not be seen as victims in their own sexual rela tions with men but as equally assertive partners, just as capable of experiencing sexual pleasure.?# With this new hard-core, pornographic magazine out, much controversy came about on whether or not there should be any censorship to pornography. As soon as Hustler hit the stands, Flynt had been bombarded with lawsuits. He was charged with many counts of pandering obscenity and organized crime in May, 1976. ?The case was significant because it suggested that individual communities had the right to define obscenity.?# These court cases again questioned our First Amendment rights for both sides of the controversy. Should we be constitutionally protected from obscenities? Feminists and anti-porn activists would say yes. To them, pornography is a type of media which degrades women and throws it in the faces of the public. What they are fighting for is that freedom of speech and press allow protection from obscenity in favor of the women and of the innocent eyes. ?Without this exploitation, published for profit, the male writer feels censored. The woman lynched naked on a tree, or restrained with ropes and a ball gag in her mouth, has what? Freedom of what# Others would argue that freedom of speech and press should not have boundaries or limitations. They have a strong opposition to the censorship of pornography. Many feel pornography is portraying women as equals to men with their sexuality, while some feel pornography is an expression, like art. Larry Flynt, pornographers, and those who are anti-censorship feel as if their freedom of speech is being challenged. Flynt said, ?I realized that freedom of expression could never be taken for granted.?# Over the years, the controversy has still been debated, but Flynt has set his sights on a recent headline. Since the Monica Lewinsky scandal, Flynt has sided with Clinton. He has offered ?up to $1 million to anyone able to provide evidence of ?illicit sexual relations with a congressman, senator or other prominent officeholder.'# Flynt received over 2000 replies to his offer, in which two stories were of strong interest to him. His first story included Bob Livingston, a Republican in line for speaker of the house. Livingston resigned from his position, ?making a vague admission of ?marital infidelity,' Livingston complained about having been ?Larry Flynted,' but a full-on Flynting promises to

Creativity and Innovation essay part 4Essay Writing Service Creativity and Innovation essay part 4 Creativity and Innovation essay part 4Creativity and Innovation essay part 3First, experts in relevant fields must be needed. Since the ideas are often with high technology and applied in specific field. If the ideas are aimed to create something new and sometimes even bring comprehensive cross-industry, the knowledge domain of experts must be clear. Second, the individual difference affects the judging (Caroff Maud, 2008). Pursuing customer’ the biggest satisfaction is the goal of the company and customers are the end user of the products, so customer experience has a decisive influence in the success or failure of the product. It is necessary to choose a few loyal users to evaluate the idea of research and development. The experts are related with RD and customers are related with the market. Third, communication mechanism between assessment team and innovation team is important during the assessment process. The explanation of problems is sometimes not simple and direct, g ood communication will help.  Ã¢â‚¬Å"ALUS†, SWOT analysis, Pro’s and Con’s of the idea, plus minus interesting all can be used to assess ideas. And they have a series of criteria in common. The evaluation on six aspects is mainly considered, including technical aspect, production aspect, market aspect, management aspect, policy aspect and the economic aspect. For the technical aspect: whether difficult and not mature technology is used in the process from the research and development process. Because technology can make the product difficult to produce no matter how much better the idea is. For the production aspect: since the research and development is always separate, viable products in the laboratory may not be feasible in the workshop. The laboratory produces the conceptual model, which cannot be used in practice, but the workshop produces the product model, which can be used in practice. For the market aspect: the final product will all be received by the market, the market has an automatic screening mechanism of the products and the screening criteria are quality, feature, price and so on. Also, there are many competitors in the market, the comparison with competitors’ product is necessary, and it is about the positioning of the new product. For the management aspect: the whole management and decision about the innovation is on the manager. Senior managers who have the corresponding knowledge system can more likely make the right decision. For the policy aspect: to get knowledge about the governments policy of related or similar products, and how the policy will affect the product production and earnings and so on. These are all needed to be considered. For the economic aspect: whether the whole social economic operation is in good condition, whether the market has enough capacity to consume enough products that make the company take back the investment and get profit. After the feasibility analysis period, a few ideas will re main in the ideas pool. And after the next period, only the really good idea is remain. In such a way, idea pools will help to resolve possible problems that may arise in the course of the development of the new product, APP. The company should use the feasibility analysis to test whether the idea and vision of the new product is plausible or not. Only after the affirmative conclusion of such analysis, the company should start the en mass production of the new application. The assessment of ideas feasibility is mainly from the qualitative angle, is subjective judgment based on the reality. In the last stage of the idea selection, using the quantitative analysis methods, such as NPV, ROI to select the best idea. The prediction for the costs and benefits is needed using quantitative analysis and it requires good ability of market analysis for the company.ConclusionIn such a way, the development of the new product depends on the idea factory consistently. The development and introductio n of the new product should start with and be grounded on the idea factory. The idea factory is the milestone of the development and introduction of the new product. First of all, the development of the new product should start with brainstorming in terms of the idea factory to generate ideas concerning possible products the company can create. After that the company identifies the most prospective ones. The choice of the new product should involve the short-term and long-term prospects of the development and introduction of the new product. In fact, the new product can be introduced successfully with the help of the idea factory. The idea factory helps shape the vision of the new application and suggest possible recommendations on the implementation of the new product and its further marketing. The marketing of the new product should also involve the use of the idea factory. Therefore, the idea factory comprises the core of the development and introduction of the new product. At th is point, it is worth mentioning the fact that the new product can be successful only when the idea factory conducts the detailed analysis of the business environment, the potential of the product and other important factors that may affect the quality and effectiveness of the new product.

How Do You Request Your Official Academic Transcript? Request your transcripts by contacting the Registrars Office at your university. Stop by the office and you can complete a series of forms, pay fees, and youre on your way. Some institutions allow students to request transcripts online. Visit the Registrars Office webpage to determine if your institution provides online transcript services. What Do You Need to Request Your Official Academic Transcript? Have the addresses for all the graduate schools to which you are applying on hand. Youll need to provide the Registrars Office with each address. Be prepared to pay a fee for each transcript that you request, typically $10-$20 each. When Do You Request Your Official Academic Transcript? Regardless of whether you request your transcript online or in person, you must process your transcript order early, well before the admissions deadline. What many applicants dont realize is that the official transcript is sent directly from the Registrars Office at their university to the graduate admissions offices of the schools to which they are applying. The Registrars Offices of most institutions require at least 10 business days or about 2 weeks to send official transcripts. It’s a good idea to check with your university well beforehand to ensure that you request your official academic transcripts on time. In addition, the admissions season is a very busy time, so it’s a good idea to request transcripts even earlier than the guidelines set by the Registrars Office. Allow for time to resend the transcripts if necessary. Sometimes transcripts are lost in the mail. Your graduate admissions application is not complete until your official academic transcripts are received, so dont let something silly like missing transcripts jeopardize your application.

Information Technology Application in Marketing Essay

Information Technology Application in Marketing - Essay Example Facebook, unlike other social networking websites, has a clearly defined target market that starts from students who are enrolled in high schools, college and university. The differentiating factor for Facebook is that it is all focused towards students only through creating study groups, keeping in touch with distant friends and getting information. Students use it to make their social life prominent through using various features of Facebook such as uploading, sharing and commenting on photos. Facebook earns its profit mainly through advertising. It gets involved in three different ways of advertising. One is banner ads, sponsored groups and text announcements. The visitors’ traffic and the time spent on the site also serve as a major indicator for Facebook success (Mitchell, n.d.). GOOGLE Another social media website selected is Google. Google is the most visited website that provides solutions and answers for almost all the questions through its search optimization system. Google is primarily a search engine and serves almost everyone in thirst of some knowledge or information regarding anything. Google generates its profits through online advertising (Channel 4, 2012). Google has involved in an activity called targeted advertising through which organizations use Google Adwords and Adsense to get their names or articles to get displayed on the top (Splatf, 2011). WIKIPEDIA Wikipedia is another social media network that helps individual to gain information on related topics. The business model that Wikipedia has implemented is that people who love to write and want to make their contribution can write an article and then hence upload it. Wikipedia provides a feature to make amendments to article or edit it. And even if any conflict is observed in the provided information it is then resolved by Wikipedia resolution party. The writers or authors here are voluntary writers. They do not do it for any monetary rewards but for internal satisfaction and inte rest. Wikipedia has some donors as well who provide funds to the site, and they are called wiki donors. Wikipedia does not display advertisements as other sites do and also does not charge any subscription fees. It still earns through the web traffic it has, and the number of time spent on the site by each visitor. It does not employ more than 35 employees in its organization and has managed to reduce its administration and operation costs to the least. Sustainability of the models All these three sites are sustaining because of the differentiated service and user interface experience they provide. The value that they are providing to their users is of immense importance. Their business models are different from others and quite uniquely profitable in nature. Facebook earns through its online advertising whereas Google earns through its online search optimization and its own advertising techniques and Wikipedia earns profits through minimizing its overhead cost. Future of Social Med ia Sites The future of these sites would be a more co-operative and user friendly one. These sites would progress now more towards working on virtual reality and making some efforts towards surprising users through adding features more inclined towards 3D virtual reality. How Social media sites are adapting to cell phones and PCs As technology is advancing, access to these websites is to be made from multiple devices that are

Free Essays: The Many Challenges of Homers Odyssey :: Homer Odyssey Essays

The Many Challenges of Homer's Odyssey In The Odyssey, Odysseus had to face many challenges during his travels; a few of these difficulties were a cannibalistic Cyclops, huge whirlpools, determined suitors, along with many hardships. Odysseus fought constantly to return to his homeland of Ithaca, but to accomplish this Odysseus had to be clever, resourceful, and have great leadership qualities. Odysseus proved throughout the story that he was very clever. When he was faced with having to get out of Polyphemus's cave, Odysseus first told the Cyclops, "My name is Nohbdy: mother, father, and friends, / everyone calls me Nohbdy". (pg. 452, 341-342) Odysseus told him this because he knew if the other Cyclopes would come and ask who was with him, they would think that "Nohbdy" was there. In another episode, Odysseus outsmarted the Sirens; he wanted to listen to their sweet song, but he knew he would try to jump overboard. It was then he got the notion to tell his crew, "...you are to tie me up, tight as a splint, / erect along the mast, lashed to the mast, / and if I shout and beg to be untied, / take more turns of rope to muffle me." (pg. 459, 536-539) This and telling the crew members to put wax in their ears ensured that Odysseus, alone, could listen to the Sirens' song and not die. When Odysseus had to figure out how he could kill the Suitors who were staying in his house, he had Athena disguise him as an old beggar and then told Telemachus, his son, to hide all of the Suitors' weapons and armor. If they asked Telemachus what he was doing, he was to tell them he was storing the weapons so that none of the suitors would kill each other if they got into a fight. Many times throughout the story, Odysseus had to be resourceful enough to accomplish a task by using surrounding things, whatever was at hand. When he was drifting back towards Charybdis, Odysseus grabbed onto a nearby fig tree and held on until a piece of driftwood shot out of the whirlpool; then he grabbed a hold of the driftwood and soared to safety. In order to escape from the Cyclops's cave, Odysseus wanted to blind the Cyclops.

Stefan’s Diaries: The Craving Chapter 26

â€Å"What are you doing here?† I demanded. Lexi raised a brow at me. â€Å"Same thing you are. Looking forward to a long, painful eternity together.† â€Å"No, I mean why didn't you run?† I asked, resisting the urge to take her by the shoulders and shake her. â€Å"Of course I ran, you idiot!† she snapped. â€Å"But I guess he expected I would†¦. I never even saw him come after me.† I could feel her shiver in the dark. â€Å"He appeared out of nowhere.† Her voice grew grim. â€Å"I wonder if that's how humans feel when they meet us. If we ever get out of this, I swear I am going to be nicer to them in the future. Humans, I mean. That vampire – now him I want to kill.† I put my hand on her forearm, softening. â€Å"I just pray we get that chance.† â€Å"Come, let's get out of here.† She turned and swung her leg, putting the heel of her boot smack into the middle of the doors. There was a resounding thud, but nothing budged. She delivered another roundhouse kick to the doors. And another. And another. Again, nothing happened. â€Å"Together!† she insisted. On the count of three we both kicked. â€Å"Maybe there's vervain in the stone†¦ ?† I suggested. Lexi looked grim. â€Å"Vervain doesn't make things indestructible. But there are other things that can be done to lock something up. Permanently. What about the walls?† For the next hour we ran our fingers over the white walls, ceilings, and floors, our highly sensitive skin picking out even the most minute gaps. We ripped open sarcophagi, ransacked the corpses for tools. â€Å"No knives, no diamond crosses, no silver-plate Bibles, no pennies for Charon, no lucky stone, no nothing,† I growled, throwing my hands up in frustration. â€Å"This doesn't look good,† was all Lexi said. Twenty-four hours later there was a service in the chapel. We could hear it with our Powers. It was a memorial to the Sutherlands, to the two brides who were killed, to the proud parents†¦ along with a biting invective against the young men who did it, running off with the dowry money. Murderers, thugs, con men, robbers†¦ The only accusation that didn't make the list was â€Å"demon.† But none of the insults stopped us from screaming. â€Å"Help!† I yelled. â€Å"In here! We're in here!† Lexi added her voice to mine, screeching in different high-pitched tones that nearly blew out my eardrums. At one point I could hear a hollow-voiced Hilda whisper, â€Å"Do you hear something?† And our hopes were raised. And then nothing. The service ended, people filed out, and once again we were completely, utterly alone. With sigh, Lexi gave me my ring back. â€Å"Many thanks for its loan,† she said quietly, slipping it on my finger. â€Å"But I don't think it will do me – or you – much good now.† I hugged her tight. â€Å"Don't give up yet,† I whispered in her ear. But the words echoed hollowly within the crypt, having nowhere else to go.
